RANT BEGINNING<<Sometimes I think about my high school teacher who said, in 1996, that his generation and the generations before him had tamed history, and that what we would live through would be so easy in comparison. He was a great teacher otherwise, but what makes me so angry is that the seeds of our current quagmire were there everywhere right then, right in front of him. In everything from our trade policy to wanton cruelty to women, lgbtq people, poc, and even unathletic white dudes. But anytime I pointed anything out — and let me be clear, I couldn’t see most of it either — he rolled his eyes. I took that with me for years. What was obviously wrong right in front of me wasn’t real. Sometimes I wonder how much of our current clusterfuckery is because my generation was raised to believe our history didn’t matter.>>RANT CONCLUDED
